What training means for our students

Our dedicated trainers have extensive knowledge of a range of software and make informed, bespoke recommendations for every student dependant on their circumstances.

This week we are talking about how bespoke those recommendations are and what a difference it makes to students.

A student quote last month explained “Support with John-Michael on customising Dragon NaturallySpeaking to help meet my needs as a doctoral candidate with repetitive strain injury has been invaluable to the completion of my thesis.

We worked on advanced scripting voice commands to minimise mouse use and keyboarding when working with quotations and with open-source reference management software.

John-Michael was also really helpful with recording Dragon commands for publication on the experience of working with RSI, and introducing me to how to use MindView and Dragon together, as well as supporting me with evaluating which Dragon input devices are best suited to complex needs of being neurodivergent too.

The training was fascinating, perfectly paced, and frequently met very niche problem-solving with interest, curiosity, tenacity and good humour – I always looked forward to our session and would be glad for the opportunity to learn more from John-Michael in future.”

Each student is on a very unique journey, and we are committed to not only recommending appropriate software to support students but showing how that software can be applied to specific courses.

We also demonstrate how certain software can be helpful for specific learning difficulties and disabilities.

We caught up with Remtek’s General Manager, Nick Dalli to discuss Remtek AT training and our entire approach. “Once Remtek is engaged as a student’s training provider our innovative process begins.

After introductions, we ask students questions that help form a bespoke strategy including 1. which aspects of their studies are they struggling with the most? And 2. What university projects are they working on currently?

Rather than focus on products, we work with students, and based on their answers, we form a training plan that focuses on their needs. Every plan is different as we’ve come to learn that a one size fits all approach doesn’t work.

As shown in the review above our training is completely tailored to each individual. We’re extremely proud of this process. The proof is in the pudding; our extensive range of reviews show how effective our training is.”

Our training is extremely successful when customised to the specific needs of a student and that’s what we would like to see more of across the industry.

The student’s champion

Remtek Training is the students' champion. We have created a bespoke student website from student feedback gathered through our training sessions.

Our ultimate goal is to make the DSA process as enjoyable as possible for the student and give them the confidence to use their software effectively throughout their studies.

What do we collect from you:

  • No identifiable information is collected from you while you browse our website.
  • Any information submitted by you via the contact forms is sent directly to email. We do not retain anything on our website.
  • Google Analytics; although we utilise this service and it will be able to track you as a user on the website, you must opt in to invoke it. It will be turned off by default.
  • Zopim/Zendesk Chat Service; you have to opt in to use this service as it uses several analytics cookies, please check the Zendesk website. It is off by default

How do we handle collected information:

  • All information you provide to us is held internally. The only exception to this is where depending on your requirements select information is forwarded to government bodies orienting around Disable Student Allowance services.
  • Any third-party services you've opted to use have their own policies. You may review them at their respective websites.

Access to your information:

  • You have the right to request a copy of any information we hold about you. Further, you may ask for explanation, update, correction or deletion if you wish. We will only hold the information that you provide to us and therefore rely on you for its accuracy.

    • They are essential for anonymously storing settings for the visual changes on your web browser
