This week marks Neurodiversity Celebration Week; a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences.
The aim of this awareness week is to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, and organisations with the opportunity to recognise the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent.
By coming together, we can create more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual.
Remtek Systems has been busy in the run-up to Neurodiversity Week building out service areas to celebrate and support the talents of neurodiverse minds.
Last week our AT Training Manager, Thomas Jackson and recently trained Assistive Technology Trainer Claire Sheen attended the Dyslexia Show in Birmingham. Claire explained:
“It was a great way to celebrate the start of Neurodivergent week by heading off to The Dyslexic Show.
The aim of going to the show was to expand my knowledge and what support and help is out there for the Dyslexic and Neurodiversity community. It is all to help being Assistive Technology training at Remtek.
When training I have been asked if there are any support groups or anyone in the community that they should be following. So, the show was a great opportunity for me to get first-hand experience of demoed products and a better understanding of the help groups for all ages which is out there for us.
Yep, I am part of the community too which made the show even more exceptional. I was in a room full of people who just got what it’s like to be dyslexic.
I had the opportunity to speak on the SEN in Ten Pod Cast with Darren Clark, about my role at Remtek, being an Assistive Technology Trainer, and how Training helps the users of the software who find reading, writing etc difficult or impossible easier and take away the fear.
There were lots of Seminars which I made the time for. From understanding how far we have come in understanding Dyslexia, but how far we still need to go. To understand where in society support is needed to help shape dyslexia’s future.”
Thomas went on to explain how he attended the “Supporting Staff to Embrace Inclusion” seminar hosted by Samantha Garner.
The seminar presented a host of great information around mental health support and embracing inclusion, which is what we are all about at Remtek.
As part of our drive to improve accessibility and inclusion for neurodiverse people we will be carrying out a range of ‘meet the expert’ interviews in upcoming months. Next month we will be kicking off with the talented Sarah Musique who specialises in coaching for individuals and organisations.
